René Leibowitz was a Polish-French composer, conductor and theorist who was among the earliest and most influential champions of the Second Viennese School (Schoenberg, Berg, Webern) in postwar France, teaching serialism to a generation including Pierre Boulez. Born into a Jewish family in Warsaw, he was Jewish.
