Bistritzer is an Israeli physicist who earned his PhD at the Weizmann Institute and, as a postdoc with Allan MacDonald at the University of Texas, predicted in 2011 that two graphene sheets twisted at a 'magic angle' of about 1.1 degrees would form flat electronic bands. The prediction was confirmed experimentally in 2018, launching the field of twistronics and the study of superconductivity in stacked graphene. He shared the 2020 Wolf Prize in Physics.
