How & why

An Israeli experimental physicist, Heiblum trained as an electrical engineer, worked at IBM, and in 1990 returned to Israel to found and lead the Braun Center for Submicron Research at the Weizmann Institute. His delicate quantum-electronics experiments gave direct evidence for fractional electric charge and other exotic states of two-dimensional electrons in strong magnetic fields, sharing the 2025 Wolf Prize in Physics.
