Piero Sraffa

Sraffa was an Italian economist whose Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities offered a rigorous neo-Ricardian critique of marginalist value and capital theory, reviving classical economics and shaping the Cambridge capital controversies. He also edited the definitive works of David Ricardo. Both his parents were Jewish; a friend of Gramsci and Wittgenstein, he left Fascist Italy for Cambridge.
