How & why

David Ricardo was born in London to a Sephardic Jewish family that had emigrated from the Dutch Republic; he later left the Jewish community after marrying a Quaker and became a Unitarian. One of the founders of classical economics, he set out the theory of comparative advantage and the theory of rent in his 1817 Principles of Political Economy and Taxation, foundational ideas in international trade theory.
