Paul Wolfskehl is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Number theory; endowed the Wolfskehl Prize for Fermat's theorem
How & why
Paul Wolfskehl was a German physician and mathematician interested in number theory who, in his will, endowed the Wolfskehl Prize for the first complete proof of Fermat's Last Theorem — an incentive that sustained interest in the problem until Andrew Wiles collected it in 1997. He came from a wealthy Jewish family.
