Murray Lew Weidenbaum was an American economist at Washington University in St. Louis who served as the first chairman of Ronald Reagan's Council of Economic Advisers (1981–1982) and was an early architect of deregulation policy, a leading scholar of the costs of government regulation. He was born to a Jewish family in the Bronx.
