Moses ibn Ezra is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Hebrew poet and philosopher of the Spanish Golden Age, master of secular and penitential (selihot) verse.

How & why

Moses ibn Ezra was one of the great Hebrew poets and philosophers of the Golden Age of Jewish culture in Muslim Spain. He was a master of both secular verse and penitential religious poetry (selihot) still recited in synagogue liturgy, and he wrote a pioneering treatise on Hebrew rhetoric and poetics. He was Jewish.
