Morris Cohen

Cohen was a materials scientist and metallurgist who spent his whole career at MIT, illuminating steel and the phase transformations — especially the martensitic transformation — that determine how metals can be strengthened and shaped, and helping turn metallurgy into a rigorous, physics-based science. He received the National Medal of Science and the Kyoto Prize. He was a Jewish American, born in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
