How & why
Fridman co-founded Alfa Group, one of Russia's largest private financial and industrial conglomerates, and later the investment firm LetterOne, becoming one of the wealthiest businesspeople of the former Soviet Union. He is Jewish, born to a Jewish family in Lviv, and has been a major donor to Jewish causes, co-founding the Genesis Philanthropy Group and the Genesis Prize.
