How & why
Michael Bruno was an Israeli economist who, as governor of the Bank of Israel, helped design the 1985 stabilization plan that broke Israel's runaway inflation. He later served as chief economist of the World Bank and did influential research on inflation and growth. A Jewish scholar born in Hamburg, he emigrated to Mandatory Palestine as a child and became a leading figure in economic policy.
