Max Temkin

Max Temkin was one of eight friends from Highland Park, Illinois, who wrote a party game for their own new year's party and put it on Kickstarter in 2011, asking for four thousand dollars and raising more than fifteen. Cards Against Humanity has been among the best-selling party games ever since, and the company gives its work away — every set is free to download and print under a Creative Commons licence. Temkin named the company's political action committee after his grandfather, a Jewish prisoner of war in the Second World War who formed what he called a nuisance committee, to annoy his Nazi captors without getting himself killed. The game is written for adults and trades in deliberately offensive material, which is the point of it and the source of the objections to it.
