Max Steiner was an Austrian-born composer regarded as one of the fathers of the original film score, writing music for more than 300 films including 'Gone with the Wind' (1939), 'Casablanca' (1942) and 'King Kong'. He won three Academy Awards and helped establish the symphonic Hollywood scoring style. Born in Vienna to a prominent Jewish family, he fled the rise of Nazism in Europe for the United States.
