Mark Blaug was a Dutch-born British economist, the leading historian of economic thought of his generation, whose 'Economic Theory in Retrospect' and 'The Methodology of Economics' shaped how the discipline understands its own history and method. He also pioneered the economics of education and of the arts. Born into a Jewish family, he fled the Netherlands as a child ahead of the Nazi occupation.
