Marcel Rayman is recognized among Israeli contributors to Heroes of Israel — Fighter of the FTP-MOI in Paris and one of the men of the Affiche rouge, executed at Mont-Valérien in 1944.
A Polish Jewish immigrant's son who grew up in Paris, Marcel Rayman joined the FTP-MOI — the foreign-born fighters of the French Resistance — at nineteen and became one of its most effective urban combatants, taking part in the killing of the SS general Julius Ritter in 1943. Arrested with the Manouchian group, he was one of the ten faces printed on the Affiche rouge, the German propaganda poster meant to show the French that the Resistance was foreign and Jewish; the poster instead became a monument. He was shot at Mont-Valérien on 21 February 1944, aged twenty. Aragon's poem and Ferré's song carry the group's memory.
