How & why
Manuel Rosenthal was a French composer and conductor, a student and associate of Maurice Ravel, best remembered for orchestrating the popular Offenbach ballet 'Gaîté Parisienne' and for his conducting posts in France and the United States. He had Jewish ancestry through his mother, Anna, of Russian-Jewish descent. He led major ensembles including the Seattle Symphony and taught widely.
