Ludwik Zamenhof is recognized among Jewish contributors to Philosophy & Social Sciences — Created Esperanto, the world's most widely spoken constructed international language.

How & why

Zamenhof was an ophthalmologist who in 1887 created Esperanto, the most widely spoken constructed international language, in the hope that a neutral common tongue would ease ethnic and religious hatred. He was a Lithuanian (Litvak) Jew from Białystok, and the town's divided communities directly inspired his project.
