Louis Simpson is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Pulitzer Prize for Poetry
Simpson was an American poet who won the 1964 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for At the End of the Open Road, writing spare, meditative verse on American life and his experience as a World War II infantryman. Born in Jamaica, he emigrated to the United States as a teenager. His mother was a Russian-Jewish immigrant, and Simpson discovered his Jewish ancestry in his youth.
