Licco Amar

Licco Amar was a Hungarian-born Jewish violinist best known as the leader of the Amar Quartet, which in the 1920s became a leading champion of new music and included the young composer Paul Hindemith as its violist. Of Sephardic Jewish background, he pursued a distinguished career in Germany until the Nazi era, after which he taught for years at the conservatory in Ankara, Turkey. He later returned to teach in Freiburg, leaving a legacy as a chamber musician and pedagogue.
