Leopold Mannes was an American concert pianist and inventor who, with his friend Leopold Godowsky Jr., co-invented Kodachrome (1935), the first commercially successful color film — famously begun with experiments in hotel bathrooms between recitals and completed at Kodak's labs. He later served as president of the Mannes School of Music, founded by his family. He was of Jewish descent through the Mannes and Damrosch families.
