Josef Tal

Tal, a Jewish composer born near Poznan who emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1934 to escape Nazism, is regarded as a founding father of Israeli art music. He composed operas, symphonies and concertos and, in the 1960s, established the country's first electronic music studio, bridging European modernism and the new Israeli musical culture. He received the Wolf Prize in the Arts in 1982.
