Jesse Roth is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Endocrinologist who advanced the understanding of hormone receptors

How & why

Trained at Columbia University and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Roth spent much of his career at the US National Institutes of Health, where in 1971 he provided the first direct evidence that cells carry specific receptors for insulin and other peptide hormones, showing that faulty or scarce receptors can cause disease such as type 2 diabetes. He is documented among Jewish American biomedical scientists.
