Jacob ben Asher, son of the halakhic authority Asher ben Jehiel, was a Jewish legal scholar who emigrated from Germany to Toledo in Castile. He wrote the 'Arba'ah Turim' ('Four Rows'), a comprehensive code that organized Jewish law into four practical divisions and became the template for later codification, above all Joseph Karo's 'Shulchan Aruch'. His work remains a cornerstone of halakhic literature.
