Asher ben Jehiel, known by the acronym 'the Rosh', was a leading halakhic authority who fled Germany and settled in Toledo, becoming head of its rabbinical court. His digest of the Talmud, the 'Piskei ha-Rosh', bridged the Franco-German and Spanish legal traditions and became a cornerstone of later codification, notably the Tur composed by his son Jacob. He was a Jewish rabbi and codifier.
