Hyman Minsky was an American economist whose financial-instability hypothesis argued that stability breeds risk-taking and thus instability, an insight widely revisited after the 2008 crisis, which popularized the term 'Minsky moment.' The son of Menshevik Jewish immigrants, he was of documented Jewish origin. He taught for years at Washington University in St. Louis.
