Hilary Putnam is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Contributions to computability and mathematical logic.

How & why

Putnam was a leading American analytic philosopher (Harvard) whose work spanned philosophy of mind, language, science and mathematics; with Martin Davis and Julia Robinson he made key advances toward the negative solution of Hilbert's tenth problem in computability and logic. His mother was Jewish; secular for much of his life, Putnam returned to Judaism, held a bar mitzvah at 68 and practiced observant Judaism.
