How & why

Steinthal was a German linguist and philosopher who, with Moritz Lazarus, founded 'Völkerpsychologie', the psychological study of language and culture, drawing on Wilhelm von Humboldt's linguistics. Born to a Jewish family in Gröbzig, he also taught at the Berlin college for Jewish studies (Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums).
