Hermann Cohen is recognized among Jewish contributors to Philosophy & Social Sciences — Neo-Kantian philosopher, founder of the Marburg School
Hermann Cohen founded the Marburg School of Neo-Kantianism, reworking Kant's philosophy into a systematic idealism of logic, ethics and aesthetics that shaped German academic thought. Late in life he turned to the philosophy of Judaism, and his posthumous 'Religion of Reason Out of the Sources of Judaism' became a landmark of modern Jewish thought. He was born into a Jewish family, the son of a cantor, and remained a committed Jew throughout his life.
