Herbert Callen

Herbert Callen was an American physicist whose textbook 'Thermodynamics' became a standard, and who (with Theodore Welton) formulated the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, linking a system's response to external forces with its spontaneous thermal fluctuations. He spent his career at the University of Pennsylvania. He is included among Jewish physicists in Jewish biographical references.
