Harry Triguboff was born in China in 1933 to Russian Jewish parents and grew up in the Jewish community of Tianjin; he is Jewish, and his foundation funds a centre that helps immigrants to Israel document their Jewish descent. He reached Australia in 1948, drove taxis and ran a milk round before building his first block of flats in 1963. Meriton has since built more than seventy-eight thousand apartments and reshaped the skyline of Sydney, which is why he is known there as "High-Rise Harry".
