How & why

Gustav Hollaender was a German violinist, composer and teacher from a prominent Jewish musical family (uncle of the film composer Friedrich Hollaender). He served as director of the Stern Conservatory in Berlin, one of the city's leading music schools, and composed violin works and other pieces. He was an influential figure in Berlin's musical life around the turn of the 20th century.
