Gordon Plotkin

Gordon Plotkin is a British theoretical computer scientist at the University of Edinburgh whose structural operational semantics gave a rigorous, widely used way to define the meaning of programming languages, and who made foundational contributions to domain theory, type theory and logics for computation. He is regarded as one of the most influential figures in programming-language theory. He is of Jewish background and is listed among Jewish computer scientists.
