Gerald Jay Sussman is an American computer scientist at MIT who, with Guy Steele, created the Scheme programming language and, with Hal Abelson, wrote Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (SICP), one of the most influential computer-science textbooks. He also contributed to artificial intelligence, VLSI design and computational approaches to physics. He was born in Brooklyn to a Jewish family.
