Geld was a composer who, with lyricist Peter Udell, wrote the Broadway musicals 'Purlie' (1970) and 'Shenandoah' (1975), and co-wrote the pop hit 'Sealed with a Kiss'. Born Gary Kaplan, he was adopted and raised by Rabbi Dr. Solomon Geld, growing up in a Jewish home in Clifton, New Jersey. His theatre work earned multiple Tony nominations.
