Frank Reginald Nunes Nabarro, of Sephardic Jewish descent, was a British-South African physicist and a founder of the modern theory of crystal dislocations, which explains how metals deform and strengthen. The Peierls-Nabarro force and Herring-Nabarro creep bear his name. He spent much of his career building physics at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
