Florence Greenberg

Greenberg was a New Jersey housewife who became a pioneering record executive, founding Scepter Records in 1959 and signing the Shirelles, the first great girl group, along with Dionne Warwick and other stars. Jewish, she was a rare woman running an independent label in a male-dominated industry. Her label helped define the sound of early-1960s American pop.
