Félix Moati

Origins and early life

Félix Moati was born in the fourteenth arrondissement of Paris on 24 May 1990, into a Jewish Tunisian family on his father's side: his father is the film-maker and journalist Serge Moati, born in 1946 into a Jewish family of Tunis; his paternal grandfather was a journalist and a resistance fighter during the war, and his grandmother came from the Twânsa, the community of Jews native to Tunisia, as distinct from the Grana who had come later from Livorno.

Work and career

He began acting in 2009 in LOL and was noticed in Télé Gaucho, which brought him a César nomination as most promising actor in 2012; a second nomination followed for Le Grand Bain in 2018, and he led À trois on y va and Gaspard va au mariage. In 2019 he directed his first feature, Deux Fils, in which a father and his two sons come apart quietly in a Paris flat, and which he also wrote. He published his first novel, Voir clair, in January 2026, and it won the Prix Transfuge for a first novel.

He works in the theatre alongside the cinema, and belongs to the generation of French Jewish artists for whom Tunis is a family memory rather than a personal one.
