Emanuel Margoliash is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Biochemist who used cytochrome c to establish the molecular clock of evolution
Emanuel Margoliash was a biochemist who used the protein cytochrome c to help establish the molecular clock of evolution, showing that sequence differences between species track the time since their lineages diverged. With Walter Fitch he devised the Fitch–Margoliash method for building evolutionary trees. Trained in Beirut and Jerusalem, he served as an Israeli army medical officer in 1948 and was Jewish.
