Elihu Katz

Katz was an American-Israeli sociologist and communication scholar who, with Paul Lazarsfeld, developed the 'two-step flow' theory in Personal Influence (1955), showing that media effects are mediated by opinion leaders, and later co-founded the uses-and-gratifications approach and studied media events. He helped establish television broadcasting in Israel and taught at the Hebrew University and the University of Pennsylvania. He was Jewish.
