How & why

A Soviet Jewish theoretical physicist at the Lebedev Physical Institute in Moscow, Fradkin made lasting contributions to quantum field theory, quantum statistics and quantum gravity — including work with Batalin on the quantisation of gauge theories (the Batalin–Fradkin–Vilkovisky formalism). He received the ICTP Dirac Medal in 1989. He was Jewish.
