How & why

Edwin Land was an American scientist and inventor who co-founded the Polaroid Corporation and, in 1947, demonstrated the first instant camera, letting people develop a photograph in about a minute. He held more than 500 patents and his retinex theory of color vision remains influential; his work later helped inspire figures such as Steve Jobs. Land was born to a Jewish family in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
