How & why

Eduard Heine was a mathematician remembered for the Heine–Borel theorem and for the concept of uniform continuity, central results of real analysis. A professor at Halle, he did influential work on special functions and spherical harmonics. Born into a Jewish banking family in Berlin, he was of Jewish origin.
