Derek John de Solla Price was a British-American physicist, historian of science, and information scientist regarded as the father of scientometrics for his quantitative studies of the growth and structure of scientific literature, including 'Little Science, Big Science'. He also reconstructed the workings of the ancient Greek Antikythera mechanism and taught at Yale. Both of his parents were descended from Jewish immigrant families.
