How & why

David Reuben was born in Bombay in 1938 into a Baghdadi Jewish family and came to London as a boy. With his brother Simon he traded metals — at one point handling a large share of Russia's aluminium — and then moved into London property, becoming one of Britain's largest private landlords. The Reuben Foundation funds hospitals, universities and Reuben College at Oxford.
