Danny Strong grew up in a Jewish family of Lithuanian, Russian and Polish origin. Known first as an actor — Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls, Mad Men — he turned to writing and won Emmy Awards for the political films Recount and Game Change. He co-created Empire, wrote the two final Hunger Games films, and created Dopesick (2021), the series that laid out how OxyContin was marketed into an epidemic.
