Daniel Barenboim

Daniel Barenboim is an Argentine-born pianist and conductor of enormous stature, longtime music director of the Berlin State Opera and the Chicago Symphony, who with the scholar Edward Said co-founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra bringing together young Arab and Israeli musicians. He is Jewish, from a Russian-Jewish family, and moved to Israel as a child, later also holding Israeli citizenship.
