Charles F. Manski is an American econometrician at Northwestern University, known above all for his work on partial identification, which shows what can and cannot be credibly inferred from data without strong, often unrealistic assumptions. He has reshaped how economists reason about policy under uncertainty and about discrete choice. The son of Holocaust survivors, he was born to a Jewish family.
