Carl Prausnitz (Otto Carl Willy Prausnitz) was a German physician and immunologist who, with Heinz Küstner, described the Prausnitz–Küstner reaction in 1921, demonstrating that allergic sensitivity could be transferred through blood serum. This became a cornerstone of allergy science and pointed toward the antibodies later identified as IgE. Of Jewish paternal ancestry, he was forced from his Breslau chair in 1934 and emigrated to England.
