Alexandre Besredka was an immunologist at the Pasteur Institute who advanced the understanding of anaphylaxis and developed the concept of anti-anaphylaxis (desensitization), and did influential work on local immunity. He was Jewish, born in Odessa, and emigrated to France where he became a close collaborator of Élie Metchnikoff. His research shaped early 20th-century immunology.
