Bobby Fischer

Bobby Fischer was an American chess grandmaster and prodigy who became World Chess Champion in 1972, defeating Boris Spassky in a Cold War match watched worldwide, and remains influential for his opening theory and endgame technique. His mother, Regina, was Jewish, giving him documented Jewish maternal ancestry, although in later life he espoused strongly antisemitic views. He spent his final years in Iceland.
